Joyce has always had an interest in Lace, brought up in Nottingham in England at a time when lace was still a major industry, she was surrounded by people who were employed in the Lace industry, some as outworkers and others operating the machines making the lace. A trip to England in the 1970’s included a visit to her birthplace which rekindled the passion.

On our return to Australia, Joyce found that there was a demand for lace, especially amongst the Craft minded, and started a small factory in Sydney, making the frilled and fancy laces to fill the demand. When other wholesale companies discovered us, we began to receive requests to supply them. One of our major customers was based in Brisbane and when the Expo 1988 was on, we decided to combine business with pleasure and visited our customer and the Expo. We arrived back in Sydney after the three days, having decided that the Gold Coast was the place to live and have been based there since 1988.

It was at this time that we first heard that there was to be a Craft Show in Melbourne, we went down to have a look and have been doing the Shows ever since. We introduced the concept of Knitting with Lace at that first show, and I am glad to say that it has provided countless ladies with a great deal of pleasure, not to mention the money raised by those ladies for some very worthy causes.

Our son Robert joined us several years ago and with Joyce can be seen at all the Craft shows. With youth and vigour on his side he gets saddled with all the driving and most of the work in setting up and taking down.

The last part of 2014 saw big changes, the nice peaceful 2 acre block that we lived on became part of the urban sprawl as neighbours subdivided their blocks and began to fence us in, so we sold up and moved to a larger block in the middle of the country. Luckily we are still able to conduct the Mail Order, and can still make the fancy laces that we are known for. We have a map of the world on the wall, and each of our mail order customers has a pin wherever they send from. The map is getting pretty crowded now.

2017 will be our 37th year and it always nice to see the return of customers from previous years and our regulars are like old friends now.

Having moved from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland downsizing from 2 acres to 5½acres!!! Our family has increased to include 4 hens, 2 roosters and 2 cats adopted from the R.S.P.C.A.
